Measles - MMR
Updated Vaccination advice for infants 6-12 months
With worldwide increases in measles cases, HSE have recommended that all infants aged 6-11 months should receive an MMR vaccine before travelling abroad, ideally at least 2 weeks before travel.
As measles is circulating widely globally, this recommendation applies to all travel abroad.
To note, a dose given at less than 12 months of age does not replace the dose recommended at 12 months of age.

Folllowing confirmed measles cases, the HPSC and HSE are guiding healthcare response.
Measles is a highly infectious disease that can cause serious health complications, particularly in children under one year of age, pregnant women, and the immunosuppressed. Complications include pneumonia and encephalitis (swelling of the brain); one in five infected may need to go to hospital and it can be fatal.

MMR vaccination
MMR vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others from measles.
Two doses of MMR vaccine are necessary to be considered fully vaccinated.
The first dose is given by your GP when your child is 12 months of age. The second dose is given by school vaccination teams when your child is in junior infants.
If your child has missed either or both of their MMR vaccines, please submit Catch Up Form below and we’ll contact you back.
We urge all families to take up the offer of vaccine now for their children. It is not too late to be vaccinated.
